Works perfectly! - Cables and Connections

Is this the highest quality cable you can buy? no Does it work the same as a more expensive cable? Yes. I don't expect this to take years and years, but it worked as advertised for chaining multiple Macs. While it didn't work with my iMac, I'm not willing to blame the cable - it worked great between two other Macs I had.

Pros
  • Pleasant
Cons
  • No Form Required

Works great with our 32 channel digital mixer

Nothing bad to say about this cable, it's well made and works. I'm using it between a PreSonus StudioLive 32.4.2 AI remote and a FireWire card in a Windows based DAW (actually a PC) and it works. Less than $10, no problem.

Pros
  • Free for educational use
Cons
  • Expensive

Working too long in computers and accessories

I ended up not using the cable because it just didn't work. I don't want to bother with a refund either. So I keep it to myself. I was trying to use this to connect my rack mixer to my computer. My existing shorter cable works great. But I was thinking about removing it from the PC, so I bought it. I didn't want to listen to other reviews of this product that people also found it too long for their application and it didn't work. Pity!

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • No insurance

Not compatible with Phase One or Leaf Credo backrests

If you're looking for a good Phase One cable for over $100, this one will look very attractive. However you will be disappointed: 1. The molded case (behind the boss for the actual firewire port at the end is too big to even fit in the back. I fixed this with some careful work with a Dremel tool. 2 IF the above mod has a working cable built in, I would be happy that so much money was saved on a simple mod, but after properly connecting the cable to the back and studio computers, the signal was…

Pros
  • Alright!

Disappointed with the ridiculously low transfer rate of 11-13Mbps

I bought a 3 inch data cable from a mid/late 2007 Macbook Pro to a new hard drive that is installed in a late 2011 Macbook Pro. Both laptops are capable of transferring data at speeds of up to 800Mbps over FireWire. Several attempts to transfer data through Migration Assistant showed an average transfer speed of only 11-13 Mbps! I was desperate so I let it run and after almost 12 hours the transfer failed. I tried initiating a few more transfers and the top speed was 14Mbps and it didn't take…

Pros
  • which is understandable even for the old
Cons
  • , I'm concerned

worked amazing for what i needed.

I hate to admit it but I bought this cable for 5 minutes of work. He did his job wonderfully. Now it's curled up in a drawer with all the other cables that aren't needed anymore. So sad.

  • Price
Cons
  • For the old

Suitable for Mac computers to connect to an external hard drive

I have three different cable connections on my external hard drive. For some reason I only had one cable. This port has become detached from the hard drive. I found out that the other port was FireWire 800 and that my Mac also has FireWire 800. This cable saved me, now I can access my hard drive again!

Pros
  • Done
Cons
  • Can be damaged
