At maximum temperature the soleplate heats up to around 380F, enough for cotton but not hot enough for laundry. But when it is first turned on and set to maximum, the temperature of the soleplate can reach 450F, but after the thermostat activates, the temperature will fluctuate around 380F and eventually levels out around that temperature. The sole is 4 inches wide at its widest point and 7 inches long. On the positive side, when the iron is switched on cold, it reaches the set temperature very quickly – in less than 30 seconds. What's more, the iron appears to turn itself off when the knob is turned all the way to the minimum setting, so you don't have to unplug it (a feature most irons don't have at any price). You can see the water level in the tank. The power cord is long and the strain relief on the iron looks functional as it rotates very freely (I don't know how that's achieved from a technical point of view).
