After hurting my toe (still hurting 8 days later) while riding at a local bike park decided I'm looking for a pair of shoes better suited for downhill riding. I've spent the last two years with a pair of Fiveten Freeriders and while they're great for recreational mountain biking, they lack real protection. That's where these Fiveten Impact Pros come in. They are strong but not bulky and offer a much higher level of protection around the toes and ankles. Oh, and they're very, very, very grippy, even more so than the regular Fiveten Freeriders. (But maybe my old shoes just wore out). I'm not sure you'll find anything better if you're looking for a flat pedal shoe that offers great traction with a strong focus on protection. There may be too many of these to carry on regular trails. as they are slightly heavier and retain more heat inside. When trail or recreational riding, I have the usual 50 freeriders on my feet. However, when riding DH trails, this is not an issue.
