This wire initially came with a broken wire. If the wire couldn't be replaced "easily" or at all, that would change the overall rating. It comes with two spare wires and it took me 2 minutes to replace the broken one (no instructions needed). It would be nice if they didn't connect the cord at all, but that doesn't change the product itself. I've used the cheese cutter several times and haven't had any issues. I wouldn't recommend cutting hard cheeses like Parmesan with the included wires. I would recommend buying a heavier/heavier gauge wire if you want to do this. I've used this on very sharp cheddar and had no problems. Take your time cutting, too, because if you try to pierce the cheese too quickly, you'll put too much stress on the wire in less time and can cause it to break. The longer the wire, the easier it breaks. So if you use it with care it will last a long time. Update: after two years of use this is the best cheese slicer I have ever had. I only had one wire which I fixed after it broke. I connected another cable and again no problem without changing instructions. I really love it!
