Review on Nilight TR 04 Tailgate Sequential Lights,2 by Kuldip Roberts

Works inconsistently (Read full review)

So, the first time I fitted the trunk bar. I had no initial problems as some have reported installing it on their truck. I installed it on my 2021 Toyota Tundra. Very easy to install. I think it would be better to buy a one piece model like the Opt-7 instead of having to unbox it. Also the 3M tape will not stick to the Nilight Light Bar. You have to try harder and keep straightening the light bar to make it stick well. After watching a few YouTube installation videos, I initially thought I would need to install the Redline trailer module to match my 7-pin trailer connector and Nilight tailgate rod. I went ahead and used the 7-pin to 4-pin Curt Trailer wiring harness. I connected the 4 pin connector to the connector on the trunk bar and soldered the reverse light wire from the trunk bar to the center pin of the 7 pin trailer connector. Everything went well on the first day. The LEDs are very bright, especially the rear light. Things went wrong the next day when it started to rain. When I turned on the left or right turn signal, the red running light (bottom row LEDs) flashed. The yellow LEDs did not light up sequentially. The next day I realized I needed to tighten the 4 pin connector on the lightbar and wiring harness. I also sealed the small gaps between the connectors with silicone to keep water out and resealed everything with fresh black tape. After that there were no problems even in rain, freezing rain and snow. However, I noticed yesterday (02/19/2021) and today (02/19/2021) that the light on the trunk grille does not work. . There was no sequence of turn signal LEDs, they did not illuminate when the emergency light was on, the running red LEDs worked but flashed when the emergency light was on or the turn signals were on. (Video attached. It's long but it shows the error). I found out that it wasn't all because of snow or rain, but because I switched my truck from 2-wheel drive to 4-wheel drive. When I switched back to 2 wheel drive, the problems were still there. I turned the cart on and off several times to see if anything fell off. It's not like this. Later in the day, when I turned my car back on for the fourth time that day, all the LEDs worked as intended. I'm really considering either returning this lightstrip after checking all my connections or just buying another one. I don't think Nilight will be quick to respond to this issue as other people who have complained about the outcry have not been resolved. I might end up buying an opt-7 tailgate light if I run into more problems. I have videos of how they work and fail, but they are too long, I need to trim them and post them later.

Pros
  • Handy thing
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
