The Tripp-lite Surge Protector plugged into a properly grounded 3-prong wall outlet and was then used to power a cable modem, gaming laptop, router and gigabit switch. A thunderstorm ruptured the cable modem's power supply and melted its internal parts. All the devices listed, as well as the MF printer connected to the laptop with a printer cable, did not work. I was about to throw everything away when I noticed the Tripp-lite guarantee. I then submitted (and documented) the details of my loss to the company and mailed the failed surge protector back to them. Tripp-lite informed me that the surge protector passed the test normally (protection and ground lights still on), but also informed me that this does not completely rule out an electrical event like mine.
