Quite loud actually

I'm not entirely sure how to verify that the product is actually ionizing the air, but I can say it doesn't smell like other ionizing fans I've been in who've used past . No matter how long it lasts, it still smells a bit like a greasy factory, while other similar products smell more like air near a waterfall. However, it may be ionizing properly and just not producing the same smell. The other big thing here is the sound, and it sucks for two reasons. First, the fan sometimes starts thumping like it's hitting something, like a playing card being inserted into the spokes of a bicycle. I can fix it by turning the device over and setting it down, but it starts up again pretty soon, within a minute or two. Second, the fan is very noisy, even if it isn't. I kept cranking up the volume on my TV because I couldn't figure out why the show was getting so quiet, but then the fan turned off and I had a very loud show that I had to turn back down. The fan would later get louder when the room was quiet, and because it was so slow I didn't realize how loud it was getting until it stopped, leaving me in almost deafening silence. In general I don't recommend it, especially for this price. However, not everything is so bad. It seems to have helped get rid of the smell in the room it's in so at least it does the job, but for the price I was expecting something a lot quieter. It doesn't feel cheap as the materials feel pretty solid. The user manual was very poorly translated but at least covers the basic usability aspects. Ultimately I would look elsewhere at home, but in the car on a trip where it can be noisy it would probably be fine.
