This material is slightly thinner than a traditional winter hat. However, due to previous reviews saying they were flimsy, I ended up wearing them under ski helmets and they worked great. Sizes work from adults up to my 6 years old. The neck appeared to be the same length as other brands. Absolutely no foreign smell. The laces are not of the highest quality but they work well. In general I am satisfied with the purchase and I recommend. They warm the face and are good for layering.
