April 30, 2021 I passed my Ham Radio exam and received my FCC call sign as a Technician. My first radio purchases were AT- D878UVII Pro and BTech UV-5x3 These portables don't come with the best antenna for your home or car I chose the Nagoya UT-72 Super Loading Coil 19" Magnetic Antenna for increased gain and with that to extend the reception and transmission range. The antenna comes with a 17ft coax cable and SMA jack adapter. While 17ft is enough for a mobile app (like a car, truck, bus, etc.), I use mine at home because I sold my car. 17 feet was not enough to reach any of my large metal masses (refrigerator or air conditioner). I bought this 50 ohm 50 foot coax extension cable for my antenna and two of my portable radios. One problem: Although this problem is not directly related to this coax extension cable, it is related to the general use of the item. The SMA jack adapter uses a thin wire to connect a 50 foot coax extension cable to the radio. My concern is that over time it won't support the weight of a 50 ohm coax (50ft extension). I may be wrong but the coax cable keeps pulling it down and the wire looks very fragile. All in all I have no problem recommending the 50ft extension cable to any radio amateur for use with portable, mobile or base stations.
