Rust-Oleum 7215502 Hammered Metal Finish, Black, 1-Quart (Packaging May Vary) Review

I love this stuff. I used it for our old outdoor railings on our steps which have rust spots. I used Rustoleum flat black last time but it didn't last or really look good. I thought I would try this hammered metal look. I love it! I really hides the rust spots and pitting. It is thick so it goes on really well and only needed one coat (they were already black though). I really want to like this product, I love the color and texture. It's very thick and forgiving as far as surface prep goes. It covers a lot of imperfections of the surface.One huge problem is how to apply it. Brush , roll or spray. I tried them all and got terrible to bad results.Bushing does not result in desired texture as you can see the brush strokes.Rolling is not good either. I used this to update my kitchen counters until I can buy new ones. I did 1 coat primer, 3 thick coats of the hammered copper paint and 3 coats of a high gloss urethane suitable for countertops from Lowe's. It looks amazing! I absolutely love the look of this hammered copper! I have crumby laminate counters from 1998 and wanted to give my kitchen a big makeover until we can eventually gut the whole thing one day. I included a before and after. Kitchen is almost done. Doing three layers of this and then a clear gloss sealant on top. To be fair, I’ve not painted much with an oil based paint, and it’s a very different feel. At first I was leery of how it was going to turn out. I painted a book case. Rust Oleum hammered black in my opinion is the best choice for painting rotiron. After using cheap spray paint, And only having it last about a month before rusting. I chose hammered black. I’ve painted the rotor on with this three times in 30 years. It’s oil base,Sticky and smelly. I wear 2 surgical gloves underneath a cloth glove and wipe the paint on this way. Because using a roller and a brush is a mess with this thick, sticky paint. That’s what I love about it. It covers rust for 10 years.

I used it to repaint exterior metal fence. Previously, I used a different brand, which indicates for outdoor use. However, the paint peeled off after 2 months, even I thoroughly cleaned the fence prior to application. This newly ordered paint is different. It stayed on the metal surface firmly through the cold Winter. The paint really does the job even it's a bit expensive. Very worth the money.
