I put a wire brush wheel in my drill to hit the really rusty spots, washed with bleach to kill the mildew, let dry, then bought a $50 HVLP sprayer, stirred well, spread out plastic on my garage floor, waited for a low humidity day per label and sprayed all 3 sets of my old rusty wrought iron patio furniture (one set brown, one black, one green), which I haven't painted in 15 years. Per the Rustoleum directions on YouTube, I first sprayed with "regular" Rustoleum (anodized brown) using multiple thin coats as a base coat. I then thinned the hammered with xylene per the label and sprayed multiple thin coats of "hammered" Rustoleum (dark bronze) as a top coat. Thinning made it spray easier, even thought the hammered paint is thicker (I would thin the base coat if doing this again). All 3 sets are now the same color and look great! Even with buying the HVLP sprayer it was less expensive than buying many, many spray cans--and I have more paint on the furniture with multiple coats. Durability? Too early to tell, but I will rate as a 5 for now.
