Operation failed. The phone didn't work properly; You cannot hear the dial tone when you pick up the handset, and you cannot hear the voice on the other end when the call is answered. The problem is in the phone itself. I replaced the phone with one that I knew worked to make sure it's a phone and not a phone: it's a phone.
