Review on Cisco-Linksys WRT320N: The Ultimate Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router by Matthew Augustin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Just works with no surprises and solves every problem I have

The WRT320N replaces my Linksys SRX400 which is having intermittent wireless problems. First of all I'm not sure if it's a problem with the router or if some PC wifi card has gone bad. The wireless network error count keeps increasing over time, so I suspect the hardware will break down in less than 4 years. Being more familiar with the Linksys interface, the WRT320N seems like a good choice. The router comes with version 1.0.3 so I don't need to update the firmware. I would suggest using the cable provided by Linksys and rebooting the cable modem first so the install is clean. The router solves the intermittent problem of Wi-Fi dropping and improves reception throughout the house. WPA2, which replaces the insecure old WEP, also works fine on multiple home wireless devices. When I put my computer next to the router, I see a WiFi speed of 130 Mbit/s. I've been using the router for 4 weeks now. It works great. The new router does not offer basic statistics (send/receive/uptime) like the SRX400 model. I used this information to find out how long the router can be used without rebooting - an important indicator of reliability. Why remove such a feature from the new router model?

Pros
  • Useful beyond its intended purpose
Cons
  • Makes me angry
