Poor design - leak replaced by contamination

Bad Design: I'm amazed at the great reviews! I installed this redesigned exchange unit and the leak through the silicone seals was replaced with a bigger problem - the chain is so long that it immediately started jamming between the sealing faces of the red hatch, making the tank impossible to refill and therefore continuous filling and emptying. This repeatedly caused my well to be pumped empty and water to appear in the house. If I hadn't had a low pressure shutoff device, the pump could have burned out, resulting in a $2,000 repair. The chain does not appear to be adjustable so my first decision was to purchase a small diameter plastic tube and cut it to length. Cut the chain lengthways and put it on the chain. This keeps the chain stiff, but then the float on the red flap, now attached to the rigid pivot, falls forward and hits the chain, fouling the red flap again and preventing it from closing. The final solution was another larger diameter plastic tube cut to fit the red plastic post holding the float. I trimmed it, cut it lengthwise and wrapped it around the post. This prevents the float from swinging forward, preventing further jamming of the valve flap. So far so good, no leaks or clogs. But bad design, bad test program.

Pros
  • Durable test results
Cons
  • The list will be long.
