Definitely recommend

I finally needed a USB 3 hub for my 2019 iMac and from everything I've seen I've settled on this SmartQ hub. I don't think I need separate on/off buttons, so all those hubs have been ruled out - more stuff that can break on fire and waste power. I wanted an easy to use desktop hub with a 30cm cable. Finally, I preferred to get one with a port for extra extra power should I ever need it. The foot-length cord is the perfect length to have room to move and not have excess length that reduces performance. The SmartQ Hub has a 30 cm long, extra thick, durable cable. The socket itself is very light (but strong) so I was worried it wouldn't stay in place, but that's not a problem. For me the perfect hub. I've tried all four USB ports (although mostly one at a time) and all work. I tested charging my bluetooth mouse with just the hub and it charges fine. If the hub has poor performance, charging may fail completely. I then connected a 5V power supply to the hub's micro USB power connector. (I got a charger from an old hotspot that was exactly 5 volts and had a micro USB port.) I then retested the bluetooth mouse charging and the extra power from the hub didn't improve the charging speed. My external drives are connected to the iMac's Thunderbolt bus, so I probably won't need to draw any additional power for the hub. I also just bought a jsaux USB audio adapter that arrived at the same time as the SmartQ USB 3 hub. I connected the jsaux audio adapter to the USB hub. The hub and iMac use USB 3.1 Gen 1, but the jsaux device runs at USB 2 speeds. I just checked out the jsaux adapter because it produces great sound - highly recommend. Below is the system information showing that the jsaux (China) audio adapter and this USB hub use Realtek (Taiwan) chips. The hub is made in Taiwan.% system_profiler SPUSBDataType USB 3.1 Bus: Host Controller Driver: AppleIntelCNLUSBXHCI PCI Device ID: 0xa36d PCI Version ID: 0x0010 PCI Vendor ID: 0x8086 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub : Product ID: 0x0411 Manufacturer ID: 0x0bda ( Realtek Semiconductor Corp.)
