Review on Authentic Italian Marcato Spaghetti Cutter Attachment for Atlas 150 Pasta Machine - 7 x 2.75, Silver by Vincent Bain

The second time I used a Linguine pasta knife, the handle started to slip while cutting. Luckily, I'm usually done with just a few games left. In the end, the handle just turned useless. The side of the device can be opened quite easily with a crosshead. When I removed the side cover, I found that the white plastic gear had completely gnawed through the matching gray plastic gear. Now I've just used it to cut regular pasta, nothing out of the ordinary or particularly chewy. I'm pretty stunned that the piece just fell apart. I only bought it three weeks ago so I'll be asking Revain for a replacement. But I'm a little skeptical that it would work better if the same plastic gear was used in the replacement. UPDATE Replacement arrived from Revain today. I immediately removed the side cover and was relieved to see strong metal gears on the broken block instead of a plastic gear. At first I thought if the plastic block was fake. But with the exception of the gears, the design is remarkably similar. I think Marcato must have switched their production due to the high error rate of using plastic gears. I assume that this blockade will be much stronger. I'll update my estimate later when this cutter is more durable than the plastic one. If you order one of these pasta knives, do yourself a favor and remove the side plate right away. If it doesn't have metal gears, wrap it up and send it back. UPDATE 2: I've used the metal gear linguine cutter a few times now without incident or drama. As expected, it reliably cuts linguini. I am changing my rating from 1 star to 4 stars. I'll still give Marcato a star as at one point they thought plastic gears might be a good idea.
