The current pfsense has problems with the ready memory card, which increases the loading time by 30-50 seconds while it loops trying to figure out what it is. I'm sure someone could download some drivers to make it better, but I ended up just making it a web server instead of my FW. I've replaced a large Dell i3 with this low power solution and it's reliable. FYI - for Ubuntu/Debian you will get a terrible Intel black screen problem if you don't install the GUI. I chose xfce because it's stupidly easy and works for me. It works great in my closet at around 80 degrees.
