Review on Susan Bates Crystalites French Knitter - Small Size, with Assorted Colors by Karla Richter

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It could be better.

Well made, attractive, durable, comfortable to hold, but there are better models. I bought both small and medium. None of them allow me to use bulkier yarn. The pins are too short. There are other themes (also available through Revain) that are easier to use. After Susan Bates' experience, I went back to the Revain and bought one that has 8 pins on one end and 6 pins on the smaller end. This construction allows the use of both thin and bulky yarns. The needles have grooves to allow the metal tool to get under the yarn to lift it off the hook and the needles themselves are shaped like crochet hooks so there is much less chance of both threads accidentally slipping off the hook. This design by Susan Bates only has short smooth pins so I experience a lot of yarn slippage with it. My old kid's wooden spool with nails driven into it was actually more efficient to use than this one.

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
