Review on Arris TM822G DOCSIS 3.0 8x4 Ultra-High Speed Telephony Modem by Ross Decoteau

Connection issues with Time Warner

I can't comment on how well the TM822G works (brand new - no preconfigurations). Due to connection issues with Time Warner cable phone and internet (hence my rating is 1 star). I recently bought an Arris TM822G modem and tried activating it with Time Warner today. This modem replaced a rented modem from TW (Arris TM402P). The system (computer/modem/telephone) worked yesterday. After activating a new TM822G device today, it registers with the headend but does not issue an IP address to my device - when I run the IP configuration commands (release/update) - I get the message "Address has been changed not associated with a network endpoint". I've spent hours online with Time Warner and gone through countless reboots, cable reconnects, new ethernet cables, IP setup, modem login, etc with two technicians to no avail. I also contacted Arris. I don't think TW hasn't properly activated the modem on their site As they say I wouldn't recommend this modem for Time Warner cable/phone/internet support. I'll have a Time Warner tech come in to troubleshoot tomorrow - I'll post the results of his efforts. RESULT: If you are a Time Warner Cable subscriber, do not purchase this modem if you expect it to function as a "single" device (Internet and phone are combined - as designed). te eMTA unit to support phone service, which defeats the purpose of the device. The TM822G works as either Internet or Phone, but NOT both. So I can't confirm the performance of the device myself as I never plugged it in. Time Warner needs to update their practice and support for gear pieces.

Pros
  • IPv4 or IPv6 addressing modes for the DOCSIS CM layer
Cons
  • Bad dialing
