Great product except it gets a little warm

This is a really good router for home use. I came to this as a long time Linux user and really appreciate how it is based on open source software. The upshot of this is that this router is the beneficiary of many open source networking software efforts, and there are several alternative packages that can easily run on this machine if the underlying software doesn't suit your needs. Additionally, Asus has done a great job of laying an easy-to-use front end on one of the most solid foundations for an internet device. Therefore, the community for this product is large and the user support resources for it are very large. anywhere on the internet. The only criticism is the hardware. It gets a little warm, the LEDs are too bright, and the wall mount holes in the router case are too small to accept regular screws. I attached the LEDs with tape, attached the wall mount using the dremeling stand that came with the router, and drilled a couple of mounting holes to turn it into a wall mount (more info). After wall mounting, I found that the space behind the router was quite warm, so I added 3/4 inch spacers between the modified bracket and the wall to allow air to circulate. Using an infrared thermometer resulted in a 7 degree Fahrenheit drop in the router's surface temperature, which I think is quite significant. So if you're wall-mounting this, I highly recommend what I did and move it away from the wall by about an inch or so. This creates a real temperature difference. In hindsight, the mounting holes on the underside of this unit may be intentionally shallow and it's not really intended for wall mounting, despite the product description. is the operating temperature. If this causes a long term problem I will come back and remove the stars.
