Review on Audio Technica AT6101 Leadwire PCOCC Cartridge by Justin Woolley

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good quality, tight fit, wish the bolt holes were round

I bought these AT wires because I was concerned about the brittleness of other common wires. Reviews have shown that they were better built and stronger, which is certainly true. Other general purpose leashes look like they're about to fall apart and I didn't want to buy multiple packs just in case. Good: High quality and sturdy wires that should last a long time. The price is only marginally higher than the cheaper generic options. Not so good: 1) Depending on the shape of your case and cartridge pins, due to the shape of the pins (trapezium) it can be a real problem to tightly connect these pins together. Definitely need needle nose pliers to crimp the wires to fit snugly onto the pins. Having to crimp both ends of the wires to fit the case and cartridge wasn't particularly exciting. 2) The stiffness of the wires means it's really difficult to get them under the shell if the wires are too long for your shell. I was seriously concerned that I wouldn't be able to screw the cartridge to the shell, but it worked in the end and the wires just flexed and flexed under the shell. I wish there was a way to cut the wires somehow. It worked in the end and I think I crimped the ends well enough that they didn't pop out. If I had to do it all over again I would probably just buy a new head and cartridge assembly rather than just replacing the cartridge.
