Wire Gauge seems a bit large. I found this wire to bend and hold its shape for my old plane. I cut off small loops on both ends and then used a pair of needle nose pliers to form large loops to work around the screws and also made two quarter circle bends in the right places. It's a bit of work, but I rate my experience as a win-win.
