I use this filter on a shallow well with sand. This fountain is used for sprinklers only. This filter will remove any sand that could otherwise damage the pump and valves and clog the sprinkler heads. Installation was easy. It is designed to allow the filter to be rotated so it can be installed with flow in either direction. The sand is caught and falls to the bottom of the filter bowl. Anything that sticks to the filter is removed instantly by turning the scraper. I just dump the sand when it reaches the bottom of the filter. The well was new so there was a lot of sand at first. Now I don't have to drain the sand often.
