Review on πŸ’‘ Pyramid PS9KX Universal Compact Bench Power Supply: 5 Amp Linear Regulated Home Lab Converter with 13.8V DC, 115V AC Input and 70 Watt Output by Dylan Goins

Very good 3A power supply

Let me first say that I have been designing power supplies many years ago. So I know a thing or two about PSU specs and testing. The PSU documentation lists the following specs: Output 13.8V +/- 0.3V, Ripple 150mVrms (424mVp-p) @ 5A DC, 2.5% regulation I bought this PSU to see 13.8 to provide V at 3 amps. I use this for low power ham radios. So I needed a low noise, linear power supply, but I usually didn't need more than 1-2 amps. As a 3 amp power supply it works very well. The output voltage ranged from 13.75V with no load to 13.65V at 3A, and the ripple (noise) never exceeded 20mVpp. Above 3A the output starts to drop and the ripple increases rapidly. At 4 amperes the output voltage was 11.8 V and the residual ripple was 500 mV peak. I have not tested the power supply above 4 amps, nor have I tested the overload and overheat protection. If you're looking for a true 5 amp power supply, look elsewhere. Pyramid makes a 12 amp linear power supply which may be the best choice for these users.
