Review on Enhance Your Embroidery with 18 Metallic Machine Threads + Thread Nets by Carrie Spencer

I wanted to love her like that!

Stunning colors. I hoped and prayed that they would work for me. But I tried three different coils and here are the results: Coil #1, multicolored. My sewing machine (Singer Futura XL-400 with a #90 needle) told me the thread had broken every few stitches. I use a Dritz thread stand so I ran the thread through my fingers to pull it tight and was able to pick up speed. The design was beautiful. Spool #2, emerald green. I tried the same method, but the thread kept twisting on itself. If you've ever put up a wire fence, you know what it's like. You should let it rest for a while after rolling it out to allow it to relax. I tried, running the thread through my fingers without even putting it in the machine and thanks to my efforts I ended up with a lump of metal thread in the bobbin case. It was fun cleaning up. Roll number 3, purple. Just because I'm a practical person and believe in the scientific method (and because I LOVE COLORS!) I gave it another try. Same result as #2. Again, it rolled itself up even when I passed it between my fingers and it jammed my machine in the bobbin case. I have a spool of Coats and Clark Metallic Embroidery Thread that I have not used. So I tried that just to see what the comparison was. I didn't have to go through my fingers at all, and the drawing came out perfect. So it's not me, it's not my car. Terrible yarn quality. This will be back in the box and shipped back to Revane on Monday. UPDATE: Jan 16th 13. After posting this back I saw that Joanne The Fabric had a 50% discount on yarn so I ordered 17 spools of Sulky metallic yarn from them. While waiting for my order, the Revain store that sells this lower quality (C+C) yarn contacted me via email asking what machine I use, needles etc. When I told her the same thing, what I wrote in my review (Singer Futura XL-400, size 90 embroidery needles), he/she insisted that I should use metal embroidery needles. As I said in my review, I've used Coats and Clarks well with the same needles. C+C also wanted me to do this review. Received my Sulky filament today and three spools later. NOT A PROBLEM. I use the same type of needle (stitch 90) and haven't had a single problem breaking, tying knots or jamming the bobbin case. All embroidery machines are built differently. Maybe this set will work fine on another machine. I just want to share my experience. That's what ratings are for.
