Fits well no smell

I bought this sweater to do a monogram for my daughter. When you took it out of the box, it smelled so bad, like steam ointment had been spilled on it, even the box smelled. I don't know what caused it, but another sweater (same brand, different packaging) smelled the same. I washed, washed, then let it dry outside and it worked so it's repairable, but it smells bad when you first receive the package.
