"Only use the nylon brush on cool grilling surfaces or damage will occur." I thought the bristle brush was metal, but it's actually tough nylon. So yes, it will fall apart pretty quickly if you use it on a hot grill. I've always cleaned the grill grates while hot, but that's mostly done for cleaning a cold grill, period. So it won't last very long after you've used it on a hot grill. The extensive use of plastic in the head also says a lot about how long it will last when used to clean a hot grill.
