It works and I have no complaints about the actual step count. Here's my problem: It has two sets of batteries, one for the light (i.e. for the screen backlight and a small keychain-sized flashlight) and the second for the step counting function. Even though flashlight batteries run out quickly and the pedometer lasts a lifetime, they only offer a replaceable battery for the pedometer. The flashlight/light battery was dead when I got it and replacement batteries will be hard to find and expensive (as they are tiny watch batteries). Also, to open it to change the battery, you need to remove 4 super small screws. It's just that every eyeglass screwdriver won't work, you need the smallest one on the market. Then the button falls off when you open it, as it is only held together with the housing. So once you've changed the batteries, you'll need to reassemble the button and try to hold it in place while you assemble the case and then screw in the tiny screws. You get what you pay for and for $5 it's a decent pedometer. Just pretend it has no light at all and only read during the day, or bring your own flashlight.
