I sharpened knives for work. There are better knife sharpeners out there, but they cost many hundreds of dollars and require training and skill to operate. There are also many consumer knife sharpeners that stink. Many of these are worse for your knives than doing nothing. In my opinion, choosing a chef is the right balance for the home cook who doesn't want to make their knives a hobby, but wants sharp knives. This is simple enough and does a great job with due care on the part of the user. I bought this after using an old model that was maybe 12-15 years old.
