It may be that my product was just defective, but I'm sure this heater was putting electricity into my water. The product boiled well and I saw the water temperature steadily rising on my thermometer and was very optimistic about the product. However, when I lowered my finger slightly to see how much warmer the water was, I felt a tingling and burning sensation. Realizing it was probably mild shock, I quickly turned off the heat and tested the water again with my finger. No tingling. While yes, the instructions state not to put your hand in water while using the device, I figured this was just a legal requirement. I don't want anything electrocuting water along with one of my animals if it could harm me. I'm thankful my Betta is doing well and I'm glad I got electrocuted before the situation possibly got worse, but I'll be looking at other heaters to keep my tanks warm from now on.
