Review on OWC Superslim USB 2.0 Enclosure: MacBook & MacBook Pro Unibody Compatible with Apple SuperDrive by Matthew Seamster

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not perfect but works

I purchased this optical drive enclosure after returning the Micro SATA Cables Inc. model to Revain because it was dead on arrival. So for about $12 more I ordered this one. Luckily it works, although I agree with some of the other reviewers on a few things. First, it looks and feels cheap (namely: it's plastic). Second, you realize that it's not very durable. I'm sure if you drop this on the floor your optical drive will die. Third, the bottom hole (the one that goes through one of the trolley's rubber feet) does NOT fit. As someone else said, it just goes round and round and never seems to close. Not only that, one of the side screw slots was BROKEN on arrival making it pointless to screw a screw in. Well, out of four screw locations, only two were used for me. Another thing that worries me, although I don't know if this is necessarily a problem, looks like the slot that the drive slides in and out of is too thin, which increases friction, causing the drive to slide have to use more force. Force eject DVD. Again, this may not be a problem as I'm not familiar with the mechanics of optical drives, but you can definitely hear this straining the optical drive ejector mechanism. This is my second optical drive case and I don't want to wait for another one, I will keep this one. It does what it's supposed to and works fast.
