Type of review

This worked great, but I had some design issues. During assembly, however, it turned out that not all of the screws were long enough or could be inserted at all. I think one of them was practically impossible due to the design. I couldn't use it even with smaller screwdrivers. Functionally it was plug'n'play with Mac and my PC. Everything I needed was included.

Fits like a glove in my old Apple Super Drive

I removed the optical drive from my old 2010 MBP to add more storage and it sat in my desk drawer for ages. The new computer and the disappearance of all optical drives from all computers in the house meant something had to be done. It was and works great. It's of course just as good as the drive that's inside, but the drive fits as intended. The materials are uninspiring, they are very light, but honestly I don't care.

  • Cool
Cons
  • A little serviceability

Good case for computer accessories and peripherals

It was easy to reinstall my existing MBP 2011 CD drive into an OWC SuperSlim case; The drive works exactly as if it were internal! I'm glad I have extra room in my laptop for more memory. I'm a little worried about the build quality though: it seems to be quite hard plastic, but as someone mentioned in a previous review I don't think I would trust it to stack things on top of a super slim storage case. All in all a great little case to remake your old CD drive, the instructions to build were…

Fragile and difficult to assemble but it worked

This was a lot more difficult to assemble than it should have been. It arrived with no instructions, just a sheet with a link to the instructions/assembly instructions. Except when I clicked the link there were many manuals but none for this product. The sheet also listed some hardware items that didn't appear to be there. It wasn't intuitive to open the case, I finally managed to open it, it's held together by internal plastic tabs so you have to be careful opening it. so as not to damage the…

Not perfect but works

I purchased this optical drive enclosure after returning the Micro SATA Cables Inc. model to Revain because it was dead on arrival. So for about $12 more I ordered this one. Luckily it works, although I agree with some of the other reviewers on a few things. First, it looks and feels cheap (namely: it's plastic). Second, you realize that it's not very durable. I'm sure if you drop this on the floor your optical drive will die. Third, the bottom hole (the one that goes through one of the…

Works well but poor quality materials

I used this to host a superdrive from my old MacBook Pro that died. 5 stars for the work. iTunes recognizes it and imports the CD with no problems. Contrary to some reviews/comments, it also plays DVDs (at least in Mojave on the new MacBook Pro). I haven't recorded anything yet (and I doubt I ever will). The main goal was to be able to import audio and old photo CDs. Plastic, aluminum is even better. I've searched and searched, but this is the only case for the "Slot" self-loading type, as…

Also works with non-genuine discs

I have a Blu-ray drive that used to be in a 2011 MBP. After the AMD GPU overheated and grilled my computer, I kept both the original DVD drive and the non-original Blu-ray. Other cases didn't fit, but this one is perfect. The three drive screws that come with this case aren't really needed as all drives with SATA slots are the same size and fit snugly. Just slide the case and plug the drive into the SATA connector. Slide the cover into place, then insert the fully-threaded screw into an exposed
