Review on OWC Superslim USB 2.0 Enclosure: MacBook & MacBook Pro Unibody Compatible with Apple SuperDrive by Joshua Turner

I used this to host a superdrive from my old MacBook Pro that died. 5 stars for the work. iTunes recognizes it and imports the CD with no problems. Contrary to some reviews/comments, it also plays DVDs (at least in Mojave on the new MacBook Pro). I haven't recorded anything yet (and I doubt I ever will). The main goal was to be able to import audio and old photo CDs. Plastic, aluminum is even better. I've searched and searched, but this is the only case for the "Slot" self-loading type, as opposed to a "tray-loading" disk. The Superdrive has a thin, flexible top and the plastic body is almost as thin and flexible. So it flexes quite a bit when you put pressure on it. In other words, I'm not sure I'll put anything on it and wouldn't want to put it in a pocket or drawer where something might put pressure on the top. Also, the lateral location of the screws holding the drive is very unfortunate. I can't put it into words, but I installed the left shoulder screw first by plugging the drive into the SATA connector and sliding the locking tabs into place as there wasn't enough room on the left for a screwdriver. It's really a half-assed design. You could do a lot better. But for $20, having a free Superdrive is smarter than buying a new one. I would pay $30 for a quality aluminum drive similar to Startech's SSD enclosures.
