The main disadvantage is that it takes 2-3 coats to see the color. More for my current main use (painting the mural on my daughter's wall and working on the details) unless I mix it with plain white paint. I've tried them on canvas and paper with the same results. Several layers or colors are usually tinted with an almost transparent glossy finish. Great for people just learning to draw or kids, not so much for anything that requires layers of paint unless you have plenty of time to wait for each layer to dry.
