Review on Gigabyte TRX40 AORUS PRO Motherboard by John Kennedy

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great when it works!

If the board works fine, no problem. The first one I got was DOA, nothing turned on after plugging it in. I had to take it to a computer repair shop to check the power supply and make sure I assembled it correctly. After sending the board back and getting a new one it worked fine until after a few months my sound became unstable. It distorts the audio at random times. Over time, the situation worsens, sometimes I have to turn the computer off and on again to get rid of the distortion. This problem persists even after uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, adding a sound card, and running my monitor's speakers. I even wiped my computer twice to reboot. This is the second problem I've had and it's $400 and I shouldn't try going through gigabytes again. I'm tired of taking my computer apart just to replace the same part over and over again. In the future I will take Asus. Ouch! Also the new $400 2020 board has a legacy bios (old) instead of the newer UEFI bios. I found this and it's particularly helpful because this board's "Fastboot" feature disables all USB inputs for faster booting, which means you have to keep turning off your computer every time you enter Safe Mode or your BIOS until Windows detects it hasn't booted or ripped out your hard drives (m.2), restart your computer by messing with the BIOS (disable fast boot), then shut down and reset your hard drives back on. Huge pain!
