UPDATE: the drive in the laptop has been working for 16 months. The laptop fell several times during operation, which could only affect the drive. I kept running this program that was breaking the drive on a daily basis and it worked great. Suddenly the laptop became very slow to the point where it was useless so I shut it down. I don't know what caused the error, whether it was drive related or not, but it worked great for 16 months for $25 in very harsh conditions. I needed a cheap drive to hard-lock an application to my computer's hard drives. The app keeps crashing with the drive all day. I knew I was taking a risk but it was so cheap I decided to give it a try and see what happens. So far it's worked great for three weeks and I bet I've used it more than many people have in a year. So far no problems. I'll keep it running and see what happens. I'll update this if it fails and then you all will know how many hours these 'universal' drives last.
