Review on LG UltraGear 32GQ950 B DisplayHDR FreeSync 4K, 144Hz, Height Adjustment, Adaptive Sync, Pivot & Tilt Adjustment, ‎32GQ950-B.AUS, IPS by Hakeem Turman

So I don't know first of all if the issue with this monitor is a product defect or the norm, but I'm verifying based on what I received. If I decide to exchange the monitor instead of simply returning it and the problem persists, I will update my review. I have an RTX 3080 GPU with a Z690 Mobile and an Intel 12900k. So my system should have no trouble implementing the latest Displayport standards. But when running this monitor at 144hz or 160hz OC at 4k via the displayport, I get constant flickering and graphical artifacts on the right half of the screen. I've tried several 8k displayport cables as well as the cable that came with the monitor. Same results for all cables. On the display port it only went away when I overclocked the monitor below 144Hz. I switched to HDMI 2.1 and the problem doesn't occur at 144Hz, but the 160Hz OC mode is no longer available. Even the Geforce control panel doesn't recognize it as a GSync-compatible display when connected via HDMI. When I enter the HDR game while connected to HDMI, when I go back to Windows, the brightness of everything dims and only returns to normal when I turn the monitor off and on again. I've tried updating the BIOS, all software and even a completely fresh install of Windows, the problem persists. So I don't really think it's a software problem. Otherwise, when I don't have this monitor problem, the screen looks very good. The colors are great and the picture is very clear. The monitor's black level is low but could be better. The black stabilizer is disabled in all modes in which I tested the monitor. I don't know why, maybe you need to disable HDR to get black stabilizer. But I will say that local dimming is terrible. I don't know exactly how many zones it has, but if I had to guess I'd say about 10 at most. On a dark desktop background, moving the mouse creates a lot of glare. Few of the local dimming zones can be used on dark backgrounds, which I think defeats the purpose of having them in the first place as you'll mostly want to use them in darker environments. Overall, I simply cannot recommend a monitor in this price range. . Even if the flicker issue I experienced turns out to be a product flaw, the monitor's other features just don't justify the nearly $1,000 price tag. You can get very similar monitors for half the price. The only two things this monitor has compared to another 144Hz 4k 32" monitor I've tested are nanoIPS and HDR10 (the other one I tested only had HDR400). But the other monitor I tested was only $500, and LG's picture quality isn't much better. If you really don't feel like you need HDR10, I see no reason to pay more.
