Toasters use a standard heating element design that doesn't seem to have changed in decades. Where it shines, both figuratively and literally, is in its soft-touch interface, which is packed with features to help you get that perfect piece of toast. The settings button toggles between Toast-DEFROST-REHEAT. In addition, you have 6 pre-set browning levels, but with the option to increase or decrease the cooking time during browning using the +/- function. I really like the countdown timer so no surprises when the toast is ready. The appearance of this toaster is very smooth and shiny. The lack of raised buttons makes cleaning that much easier, but beware, the mirrored chrome side panels will show any fingerprint. This toaster is slightly smaller than the previous one I've had and I have found that some slices of bread may fit snugly in the slot initially. Likewise, even very large bagels can get tight depending on how evenly cut they're cut, but I've never had a problem with that. Overall it was a great toaster and with the look and feel of the controls I can give it a solid 5
