These pieces look amazing on my wood chess board. They are a good size and weight. They will stack, but don't expect these to fit into each other like plastic checker pieces. The bottom of the pieces are flat and smooth (not carved) so they will not "lock" in place. The set also comes with adhesive pads you can adhere to the bottom of the pieces if you are concerned with them possibly scratching up a really nice chess board. The pads are similar to the felt on chess pieces but thicker. Since they don't lock into each other anyway, I went ahead and added the pads to mine to help protect my board. (My chess board sits out on a table as a decorative item so I want to keep it looking nice.) Now I can swap out my chess pieces for the checkers, and it's still a really nice decorative/functional set. Note, the "red and coral" set is not actually red. The "coral" pieces are more of a sandstone/beige color, and the "red" pieces are a blend of chocolate brown/cherry/mahogany tones. There are natural and very beautiful variations among the pieces, but the "red" pieces clearly match each other and the "coral" all match each other as well. You will not get them mixed up as there is a great contrast between them. I highly recommend this set.
