I bought it to make caramel. The first problem that turned out was that the fortifications on the bank were very weak. Then I realized it was hard to read. After bringing the mixture to a temperature just above the desired temperature (which was quicker than the recipe called for) and then chilling the mixture, I found that the temperature on the thermometer had dropped sharply, causing my caramels to turn into caramel sauce instead . There are also no markings on the thermometer for candy levels. I spend a bit more to get a decent one and this one goes in the trash.
