Complete lack of effort to include any kind of diversity, narrow target audience

I would like to say that an attempt was made but its 2022 and there is simply no excuse for the lack of diversity in this book. The creator has made it obvious who their target audience is and if you’re thin, white, and young then you fit into this demographic. Congrats? If you aren’t, you’ll struggle to find representations of yourself which truly does defeat the purpose of a vision board. The intent is to envision the life you want to create for yourself and that isn’t very helpful if you can’t see yourself in said image. There are a couple images of plus sized women, lesbian and interracial couples, I counted about 3-4 Asian women, and maybe 15 or so of the same light skinned curly haired black woman. Here’s the thing, if you happen to be plus size, disabled, dark skinned, have colorful hair, piercings or tattoos, wear bold colors or anything remotely interesting, then maybe you can grab some of the nice travel pictures from this book.Even the images that don’t have a person in them lack any kind of variation. It’s all the same faded, monotone and pastel colored, tumblr-era photos that weren’t inspiring at all. Another shortcoming was while other areas like love, vacations, parties, home life had some gorgeous photos, anything that had to do with work, school, or finances had the corniest stock photos. Think of something you would see inside of a company or university brochure, it was that bad. The affirmations did nothing but glorify hustle culture, I saw the word "girl” way more than I’d like, and a lot of them said the same thing but 10 different ways. This does not replace multiple magazines, it contains images from 1-2 depending on the type of magazine. There are some duplicates but not many and each of the pages has a larger photo on the back to act as a layering background. The paper itself was perforated and easy to remove, but it was thinner and the color dull (no gloss). The creator made something that she could personally connect with and that’s fine, but people should know what they will not find in this book before they buy it.

Pros
  • Lots of options. Sufficient for vision board parties.
Cons
  • Is a book with poor quality photos. Too small to use in a vision board. Not worth the money.
