No Quality Control

Received a used set with scratches and dents throughout the metal case. To their credit, Revain replaced the kit immediately, but the replacement kit also had dents and scratches, although not as severe as the first kit, and this time the colors were new. There were also spots in the inner mixing bowl where the enamel paint wasn't applied properly, causing it to foam and separate from the bowl. Mixing paints on it will eventually lead to rust. As for the paints themselves, some paints look very dry in the pans and don't rewet well no matter how much water I add. Pigments of other colors do not mix and when drawn with them leave sandy grains of sand all over the paper. It seems that these problems are mostly related to the lighter colors - Neapolitan yellow being the worst of them all - as the darker colors were perfectly subtle and beautiful (like indigo and purple). YMMV, but it's definitely NOT an artistic quality watercolor. MunGyo, the maker of this watercolor set, also makes paints for Prima Marketing and I've found that the quality of the products from both brands are definitely on par.

Pros
  • Made from the purest pigments for color saturation and superior dilution
Cons
  • So far so good
