I have been waiting for the release of this version for a long time, without switching from 8: Apple's tendency to release "shovel phones" annoyed and perplexed. It seemed that with the rejection of Touch ID, it was enough to remove the bottom frame and shorten the top one to get a smartphone of ideal proportions, as happened with 12 mini. Another advantage was that, finally, the phone can be placed on the bottom edge to take a selfie from a greater distance or lean against a window for a better signal - the rounded edges of the previous models did not allow the phones to stand, and even when shooting without a case, they constantly threatened slip out of your hands. The screen became brighter and with more saturated colors, but in principle I was satisfied with LCD screens. The camera, of course, has become many times better compared to 8 and even X generations. Night mode is just fantastic - the difference in photos taken from the same angle on X and 12 mini is obvious. The battery capacity infuriates everyone, but when compared with 8, there is an increase in capacity (1821 versus 2227 mAh): for a day of active use (Internet, social networks) it is enough confidently, leaving from 20 to 30 percent of the charge by the evening. The edges are not so sharp as to cut themselves - an Internet fake, as well as the fact that the paint on the side faces quickly peels off: I specifically paid attention when buying exhibition samples from one of the official Apple sellers: this defect was not noticeable on any of them. They also wrote that supposedly very delicate glass and is easily scratched even with careful handling: if you carefully carry it in your pocket with keys, then it’s possible that I didn’t have a single scratch after a week of use. Face ID is very fast, catches on the fly, recognition accuracy is about 99.5% (sometimes it still asks for a password). A mask lowered below the level of the nose is sufficient for confident recognition. I was an opponent of Face ID, but now I have to admit that the smartphone unlocks faster with it, there is no need to touch it every time to read the notifications that are now visible only to the owner. I advise everyone, in general.
