Used to connect a RodeLink wireless system to a Sony camcorder and it works. It's made of metal and is very heavy for its size, so it must be pretty thick metal. I can't imagine this thing going down unless it gets wet or something gets caught in the jack. I'm not an audio engineer so I won't talk about balanced or unbalanced. I have good volume and no hiss. One more thing, maybe I can save someone trouble. I actually bought a second one and a Rode Video MIC GO which requires power from the jack. Before they arrived I thought of checking with Rode to see if it would work and realized it wouldn't. The camera offers 48V phantom power. This particular mic is designed for SLR cameras and runs on 2.5V, so if you're hoping to power your mic from it, do your homework and make sure it works.
