Do not think that the voltage gauge is the only indicator of the state of the battery. It's not like this. I've used this on 6 batteries in the few days I've had it. Each was in need of repair and each only had 80-90% capacity when fully charged. Some of them were brand new batteries that had lost some of their potential because they sat on the shelf before they went on sale. This unit, when plugged in and switched to 'recovery', could do a slow start, then do a full equalization and certainly get any battery back to 100% working order. Each of them now has a much greater potential for use in my solar system without going below my personal 80% threshold. As I said, some were only at 80%, but showed 12.7 volts. Even when fully charged, many batteries simply become "tired". Well, this little device changes that and wakes them up like new or better than new. One battery had been connected for over 4 years and was very tired which made me think I might need to replace it. I used this device once for recreation, now it has 100% potential at full voltage. I read the negative reviews and concluded that they either received a defective unit that needs replacing or they don't understand how to use it. To each his own. My conclusion is that this is a fantastic thing. Just the fact that my tractor battery is saved from dying every 2 years is worth every penny I paid for it.
