MacBook provided by employer, main use is software development in php, golang, kafka, rabbitmq, mysql, postgresql, mongodb, redis etc. Docker is constantly used, dozens of containers are running. There are a lot of problems with M1 support - often it results either in brakes, or inability to start / build. There are problems with the file system. You can live with all this, but often you have to look for solutions to problems that were not there before on ubuntu/windows. In general, I would never buy such a laptop for my own money - it is unjustified neither for my tasks, nor for any others. The only justified application is the Apple ecosystem or a fan of this brand. Separately, the doubling of the price for doubling the disk / memory, which on PC systems would cost a penny, is striking.
- Juicy screen, very bright, black sometimes really black. 120 Hz is very smooth and imperceptible to the eye, especially if you put a 60 Hz monitor next to it to compare the same movements. Excellent sound, like from small speakers of premium brands. The built-in webcam shoots perfectly and the "bang" does not bother while the macbook screen is the main one. Very fast interaction, for example, waking up from sleep - a second. Authorization with a finger - instantly. The battery really lasts a very long time, enough for an active working day. If you watch only the video or do nothing, maybe two days is enough. To make it start to make noise or get warm, you need to create a really serious load on the processor.
- Unjustified price, especially for older configurations. The screen on mini-led, although it promises deep blacks like on OLED, in fact, black is really black only where there is a large fill. On the borders of black and other colors, a small but noticeable glow appears around the borders of light elements. The screen is very easily soiled, if you touch the screen - the spots will be noticeable, they just shimmer with all the colors of the rainbow, and it is very difficult to remove them. If you connect an external monitor and the macbook screen ceases to be the main one, the bang starts to strain, because the top panel is no longer displayed on the screen and the entire upper part of the screen is simply not used. The sound in the speakers is good only at medium volume - at high volume it becomes completely flat, there is no bass. There are many compatibility issues of the M1 processor with various applications (databases, for example)
