I don't really see how but these things seem to work. I recently bought a new dryer and haven't had good results using any of the moisture detection options. The clothes appeared to be still slightly damp. I had to take them out of the dryer immediately to avoid that musty smell that clothes can get from lying too long without being completely dry. These dryballs solved that problem. There are several similar products but I bought them because of the price and because they were larger than some of the others I was considering. The larger size may increase the noise they make in the dryer, but I think it makes them work better. They are very light and I didn't realize that noise was an issue. They can roll if they fall on the floor while taking clothes out of the dryer, and these little ones can cover a lot of ground! However, they are easy to find. I lost one for a while and later found it hidden in my sweatpants pocket. This is really an indication of my poor folding skills and not a problem with the product.
