My 7 year old can basically do it himself and have fun. She needed help cleaning the tools between the vials. Lip gloss does not moisturize. Rollerball pens are awful and basically don't roll. Have a basin of very warm, very soapy water ready to clean the dropper and bowl between the vials. I wish there was a dropper and vial for each vial as it is not possible to clean the dropper and this can lead to cross contamination of the powder which can be frustrating for some children. Also have a roll of paper towels handy. You will need 3ml of castor oil which is not listed in the instructions but answers the seller's questions. While I rate this harshly, I have to say that my daughter loved mixing and making the lip gloss.
