The vinyl cover isn't thick, it's lighter and feels (not as strong as I expected).
The wire appears to be less than 16 gauge although I have not measured it. This 24" wide version is a lot lighter at 13-14# than the 36" other brand I bought which is 45#. This one has a much heavier vinyl finish than this brand's lightweight 24" wide finish. It was strong enough for my purposes, but if I had seen the weight in the box before ordering it I would have chosen a heavier brand ordered. Keep an eye on the weight in the package so you are not surprised. Both were listed as 16 Ga.
