Good lightweight base layer

Bought this for my son who plays hockey - it's a good base layer to keep him warm on the ice but is light enough where it doesn't keep him warm holds. feels excessively hot considering all the necessary equipment (padding, jersey, etc.). It also seems to do a good job of wicking away sweat. He is average height for an 8 year old so size S fits perfectly.
